'Cricket is the flavour of the season' says VJ Yudi

Catch Bangalore boy and VJ Yudi, LIVE in action at this season's IPL Extraaa Innings.

There is something about cricket that
we all love. And India as we know is a cricket crazed nation.  So what if the most sought after World Cup is over, it’s time for the most entertaining cricket event of the year, ‘The IPL’. This year IPL is only going to get bigger and better. With new teams, new captains and new players you ought to catch it all LIVE. Popularly known as Yudi, VJ Yudhishtir Urs is the new face of Extraaa Innings on Max for DLF IPL Season 4. He is extremely excited about his show even though cricket is not his first love. “In a country like India, you just cannot ignore cricket. It’s ingrained in all of us and we’ve all grown up watching it.  I wouldn’t call myself a cricket frenzy fan but then I am sure the whole experience of hosting the show will be exhilarating, “he says.

For almost two months you can catch your favourite VJs in non-stop action. And the best part of this season’s Extraa Innings is that the hosts will not be confined to the studio space. So you get to catch them live in action on the field, either interacting with team or the audience. “This time the whole idea is to be extremely interactive and to make it more action packed we will be interacting with coaches to find out about the strategies, we will also talk to the owners and get their reactions.  We will also be doing a lot of human interest stories revolving around the IPL fever. So we would be catching the energy and euphoria across all the venues. It is undoubtedly going to be one power packed schedule,” says Yudi who will be travelling to Delhi, Jaipur, Mohali, Bangalore, and Mumbai. “This time there will also be matches held at Dharamsala and I’m really excited to go there.”

It would be his first stint in doing Live Television which includes not-stop action. And he seems extremely thrilled about it. “The buzz of IPL is definitely different and exhilarating. I love the 20-20 format of cricket as it is high on entertainment and energy. We all look for out for some big hits, some exciting wickets and it’s always fun to see your favourite sports person on the field,” says the Bangalore boy.

Yudi shares a deep bond with Bangalore city and it remains close to his heart as he spent his memorable childhood here with his parents. He later moved to Gujarat for his schooling but then he had a theater calling which got him back to the city during his teens. “I love Bangalore for various reasons. I have spent the most precious time of my life here. And I like the fact that it’s laid back and easy. It’s like a relaxing pad for me. And whenever I am there I just love binging on the South Indian fare at Bheemas, Nagarjuna, MTR and Airlines,” says Yudi who joined Arjun Sajnani’s theater group and worked with him for three years.

But then what he enjoyed the most during his VJing career was meeting Big B. That is one moment he still cherishes. “I have grown up watching him but then to get a chance to talk to him for a show on Channel V was a great feeling,” he says who also had a chance to walk the red carpet at Oscars in 2007 where he hobnobbed with his favourite Hollywood stars like Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet to name a few. Apart from VJing and theater, Yudi has also acted in a couple of films, we last saw him in Break Ke Baad. But what excites him more is his fascination for the lens. “I love still photography and whenever I get a chance I travel as it lets me capture different people, culture and tradition. It enriches me as a person and travelling always throws open new challenges,” says Yudi who is extremely proud of his culinary skills too. Well, you never know, he  might treat you with his signature Honey Mustard Salmon the next time around.
